Embracing Equity: Insights from Female Leaders on #IWD2023

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is “Embracing Equity,” which calls for gender balance and parity in all aspects of life. At BuyRentKenya, we believe in empowering women and giving them opportunities to succeed.

Women have been an essential part of the real estate industry for decades. However, they have often faced discrimination and a lack of equal opportunities. In recent years, the industry has taken steps to address these issues and create a more inclusive environment. Women are now breaking through the glass ceiling and becoming leaders in real estate.

This year, we talked to a few women from BuyRentKenya on embracing equity here are some of their thoughts. 

How Would You Define Equity?

Equity is all about giving the same resources and opportunities to the same group of people. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and we have to allocate the same opportunities to everyone.” – Lizzie Costabir, CEO BuyRentKenya

What Does Embracing Equality Mean to You?

Embracing equality is all about creating a diverse and inclusive environment where both men and men and women are included. Equality is also about promoting harmony between both genders. Equality is the way to go and equity is how we get there.” – Esther Wanjiku, Human Resource Business Partner

Equality is all about equal opportunities regardless of gender.” – Patricia Muchangi, Relationship Manager

Equality is about getting rights for the same genders, giving people the same responsibilities  and opportunities without discriminating on gender.” –Nancy Gesuka, Customer Advisor

Embracing equality means creating a world where all individuals regardless of gender are given equal opportunities to succeed and reach their full potential. Recognizing and celebrating unique contributions and perspectives. It’s working toward dismantling the status quo and barriers and biases that prevent women from reaching their goals.” – Lizzie

How Can We Create a Gender-equal Work Place?

Gender equality is a long way to go but every little step matters by challenging gender biases, advocating for policies and supporting women’s advancement as well as well-being, promoting equal pay and opportunities that arise in the workplace. We can also amplify the voices of women and other marginalized groups”- Lizzie

We can create a more inclusive workplace by leading with empathy, humility, and harmony.”- Esther

What is Your Message For Women on IWD

As we forge on to equality, I encourage women who have been able to scale and break the glass ceiling’s handhold, to empower and mentor the women who are coming up.”- Patricia

I’d like to remind all the women that girls with dreams become women with vision”Esther

I’d like to tell the girls that they take up opportunities with courage and work hard and prove to the world that they can do it”- Nancy
